Visitor Attractions and Activities

Since time immemorial Cyprus has been one of the Mediterranean's stepping stones. Having such a strategic geographical position and the natural resources of copper and wood Cyprus has long been a magnet for those seeking power and wealth.  The island has probably had more settlers, rulers and raiders than any other island in the Mediterranean.

Today, unfortunately,  the island is divided into the Turkish republic of North Cyprus and Greek Cyprus in the south. The old enmity between the Greek and Turkish Cypriots has been well documented (see History of Cyprus) At the moment, there is not free access between North and South. There are talks between the two sides taking place now, as South Cyprus has had its membership of the European Union accepted. The EU has requested that the island come under a unified government, so there is hope that the two sides can come to an agreeable resolution.

The links on the right will give those considering a trip to North Cyprus a quick guide to the history, sights and attractions the island has to offer. Some of the websites shown on our Links page will give more details and other interesting or useful information.
